Day 4 - Week 1 - Genesis 1: 1 "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."

Have you ever wondered why the combination of yellow and blue is so appealing?  At least to me it is - love cornflower yellow and a vibrant blue!  Today as Robert and I were driving to Santa Fe, the sky was the most brilliant blue and the endless grasslands were a beautiful maize yellow dotted with junipers---absolutely gorgeous!

Isn't it funny that we so often attribute man-made objects or designs to the great creative minds of the artists, while they very often mirror the palette of the Master Artist!  I believe God created the design of the world to appeal to our sensitivities, to make man ask "who?" while He is very ready to answer, "I Am the One."  In Romans 1:20 Paul tells us, "For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse."  It is only when men become so egocentric that they refuse to fathom that there can be anything bigger or better than themselves, that God not only becomes unnecessary, but a threat; and every argument will be made against such foolish belief.  But then I'm reminded, "Do not deceive yourselves. If any one of you thinks he is wise by the standards of this age, he should become a "fool" so that he may become wise."  I think I'll opt for God's wisdom.

Signing out until Sunday night/Monday morning.  Keep meditating on, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."  The more I let it sink in, the more I keep getting bold pictures of His creation as an expression of His love.

Day 3 - Week 1 - Genesis 1:1 "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."

I'm loving doing this and hearing feedback from some of you either via Facebook, comments (OK - make that 1 comment!) or by things you've said to me directly....BUT, it would be a great encouragement to me if you would "Follow" on the blog, offer some comments here on the blog, or on Facebook.  I'd like this to be a dialogue among all of us who are memorizing.  But MOST of all, I just want to memorize Scripture, so no matter what, I'll be here, stating the verse again and adding a little commentary, either mine or borrowed, or both!  (If nothing else, I am such a talker!)

So tonight I offer this contemplative thought....when the Word says, "In the beginning..." the beginning of what?  It's not God's beginning, because we know that God has no beginning just as He has no end.  I would suggest it was the beginning of time.  The time that we know...the time of this earth...Genesis is the beginning of the story of this earth, when the clock started ticking, just as Revelation is the story of the end of this earth, when time is no more.  God was before and will be after, and because "God created" we are not just collections of happenstance cells that will pass away along with the earth.  Because "God created", we have been allowed the opportunity to live past the end of time, into God's eternity.  And so the story begins...
What do you think?  I'd really like to know!  :)

Some great images of God's creation --- He has created a beautiful world for us, hasn't He?  When you look at the creation, how can you doubt that it was driven by love?  It didn't have to be this beautiful!

Genesis 1:1 - In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Verse 1 of 100!!

OK - I'm excited..about ready to start on a "mind adventure"!  When you have just turned 55, anything to do with your mind is a bit daunting.  But prayer and determination will make the difference. Speaking of that, let's start out with a prayer right now, before we begin...good idea, huh?

Dear Father, Help us as we start out in this study of Your word and in etching Your words into our minds. Give us confidence that You will enable us to remember things that we think we may not be able to.  Expand our minds to allow us to absorb all that You give us out of Your Word.  Empower us with Your words so that we can effectively overcome our temptor whenever he presents himself in our lives.  Thank You, Thank You, for giving us Your Holy Word---it is truth and it is our bread of life! Praises to You, O Father, You are so good to us!  In Jesus name - Amen!

OK - Week 1 - Verse 1 - 99 to go!  Here it is:

Genesis 1:1  "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."

Starting out easy - but very fundamental to everything else in our faith.  Grab on to the first real truth --- God created everything, from the very beginning.  No wonder why these are the first words in Scripture. If you can't believe them, it's going to be tough going forward.  God has always been and will always be and He has created everything we see.

Got this one down?  We'll spend the week discussing --- let me know your thoughts!
