Day 6 - Week 27 - Isaiah 53:5 "But He was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities, the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and with His stripes we are healed."

The chastisement of our peace was upon Him.

Another translation says, "the punishment for our peace was on Him."

Punishment / Peace. They don't seem to go together, do they? But think again...do we not punish our children in order to rid their lives of trouble? Isn't the motive of our discipline so that they can ultimately find lives of peace and the ability to live civilly with those around them?

We require punishment to be at peace with God---for our bent is toward rebellion and selfishness. Christ came and took our punishment and by His life showed us the benefits of being at peace with our God. He shows us that we do not need to rebel against someone who loves us as much as our Heavenly Father loves His children.

Without Christ's life we could never fully understand God's love for us nor could we ever fully trust His care. Without Christ's death we could never be at peace with God, for our sinfulness would always create the tension between us and would never allow God to accept us in a less than holy condition.

WITH Christ ---we have been vindicated, absolved, and purified. We can now be at peace with our Creator. We can KNOW we are His and that we have been sealed for eternity.

We are enjoying some wonderful away time with my sister-in-law and brother-in-law! Writing via iPhone, so excuse any misspellings!

You are excused. It is written beautifully. Christ received our punishment. He suffered the consequences of our sin. Jesus completed God's plan for His children to be forgiven of their sins and to allow peace to abide in our hearts. The peace from knowing we will live for eternity and we are forgiven of our sins. God loves us and He gave His Son for us. Jesus lives and so will we live.
